A roadside bomb kills nine civilians and wounds two in Thailand’s southern Yala Province on Tuesday. It is the deadliest attack in 19 months in the predominantly Muslim region bordering Malaysia.

The victims were all Buddhists who were traveling in a pickup truck when the bomb exploded.

Police said the bomb was planted in the road and detonated remotely by a cell phone, destroying the truck.
