Surin, Thailand: Annual Elephant Show (part 1)
1 week end per year in November, Surin (8 hours by train from Bangkok) triples its population for the annual elephant festival famous since 1960. There are about 300 elephants for the occasion, certainly a week end different from anything else you’ve ever seen! Find a way to book in advance because all the hotels are packed. For a good seat under the shade, it will cost you 500 bath (about $17). If you can, go there on saturday and do it again on sunday! Why not? it is all about seizing the day isn’t it?
